The Automotive Parts & Services Association of Illinois (APSA) has awarded six students scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. Each will receive $500 scholarships to further their education. Austin Tewksbury of Carbondale, Ill., is the recipient of the Thomas F. Roche Memorial Scholarship. Five students are recipients of Ralph Silverman Memorial Foundation Scholarships:
APSA, an Illinois-based automotive aftermarket association, is one of many regional associations that collaborates in the online scholarship resource for students planning to pursue careers in the automotive aftermarket andprovided by the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship Committee. Applicants for its 2009/2010 awards were taken through the automotive scholarships’ Web site. “APSA’s scholars are typical of the outstanding applications we have received this year, and more than 300 students applied,” says Pete Kornafel, chairman of the GAAS Scholarship Selection Committee. “Through the efforts of APSA and other regional associations, along with the supporters of the GAAS scholarship fund, we are able to assist these students pursuing their dreams of an automotive aftermarket career.” “Our collaboration with the GAAS scholarship committee and the automotive scholarship site enabled us to reach out to more students in our area,” says Marsha Fogleman, comptroller, APSA. “We were extremely pleased with the online process and with the caliber of applicants this year, and look forward to working through the GAAS scholarship site again next year.” In 2008, a total of 150 students were awarded 170 scholarships by the GAAS scholarship fund, its contributors and other groups collaborating with GAAS. Individual scholarships ranged from $250 to $2,000 and more than $165,000 was awarded. GAAS 2010 will be take place May 25 and 26 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.
